Lead Poisoning Prevention Program

Major sources of lead exposure among children are lead-based paint and contaminants found in homes built before lead-based paint was banned in 1978. KCHD conducts Environmental Assessments of homes of children who have been diagnosed with elevated blood lead levels (EBL). KCHD will also conduct assessments for homeowners who are curious or concerned about their property or properties.

If you are concerned that your child may have been exposed to lead in some way, contact your child's health care provider or call (815) 802-9400 for a lead screening at the Kankakee County Health Department.
